The second trip for the NTPRT.ORG team found us in Jacksboro, TX at the historic Fort Richardson State Park. This 454 acre property was acquired in 1968 from the City of Jacksboro and was opened to the public the same year. Fort Richardson was orginally established in November 1867. It was named in honor of General Israel B. Richardson, who died in the Battle of Antietam during the Civil War. The fort was the northernmost of a line of Federal Forts established after the Civil War. The soldiers arrived in Jacksboro in 1866 with orders to establish a fort at Buffalo Springs, 20 miles north of Jacksboro. Due to unhealthy conditions at Buffalo Springs and constant Indian raids, the fort was abandoned. The soldiers returned to Jacksboro and eventually received orders to establish a fort on the South Bank of Lost Creek. Expeditions sent from Fort Richardson arrested Indians responsible for the Warren Wagon Train Massacre in 1871 and fought Comanches in Palo Duro Canyon. The Fort was abandoned in May 1878. The first night (friday) we were at Fort Richardson consisted of setting up camp and performing a late night walk thru of the area we were interested in investigating. Early saturday morning we attended a guided tour of buildings that remained standing from the late 1800's - it was quite a fascinating tour, full of information and history! A special thanks to our tour guide Ray, who also obtained the permission for us to revisit the site late that night to perform our investigations. Unfortunately, we were not allowed inside the buildings after hours, so all footage and EVPs were made outside. Later that night, we left the camp site and returned to the buildings we had visited earlier that day. Inventory for this trip consisted of flashlights, digital cameras (3), digital voice recorder for EVP (1), a night vision enabled camorder (1) and a non-contact thermometer (1). There were several buildings to investigate: [See Map] The Guard House, The Bakery, The Hospital, The Morgue, The Barracks and The Officers' Quarters. The time is around 11:00pm - we were in this area for about one and a half hours. We took over 300 still photos combined using the (3) cameras. Numerous EVP requests were made, especially at the hospital and officers' quarters where reported activity has been highest. We also did thousands of temperature readings all over the buildings. Nothing major appeared to be caught on the pictures or evp at the time. There were notable temperature flucuations all over the buildings exteriors, some ranging in over 30 degrees. Nothing abnormal was seen with the nightvision camcorder either, at the time of recording. By 1:00am we are back at camp. |
